Lone Peak Espresso Medium Dark Roast
Medium Dark Roast
Origin: Brazil, India, Colombia
Flavor Notes: Dark chocolate, nut, raspberry
Many moons ago, we took a free fall off a cliff and plunged into icy cold water that took our breath away. How did we warm up from that chilly, frigid moment? Hot. Strong. Espresso. That memory makes us nostalgic for our youth, where we grew up working and playing in the Lone Peak Wilderness — the home of some of the most beautiful high mountain lakes and forests that Utah has to offer. Our secret weapon in wilderness exploration was (and still is!) hot coffee. It'll give you the kick to keep on hiking, the jolt to get moving early in the morning before the sun comes up, and warmth from the inside out — even when surrounded by mountains of snow. Transport yourself into the woods with Lone Peak Espresso, our flagship espresso blend.

Wow what a yummy & balanced cup of coffee. Really enjoyed this one!
So, I had a cup of coffee at the "Crepery" in St. George, UT. It was one of the best tasting cups I've ever had. So, I do a little inquiring and find out that they're supplied by Great Basin Coffee Company. I get on GBCC's website and find I can order a sample pack for next to nothing (cost of shipping). They arrive two days later and I grab my first sample bag - Lone Peak. Hoping for a repeat of the cup I had earlier... my expectations were a little too high. My experience was good. It made really good coffee. But my problem was, I had a bit of trouble dialing in the grind... Which is more a lack of experience on my part than anything to do with the bean. But it did affect my in-cup results. I'm sure it is amazing... once dialed in. I could only get it good-but-not-great with the sample pack I had. However, I'd give it a solid 4.5 because it was still really good coffee, even when not dialed in on the grind. But it doesn't let me give 1/2 stars. So, I rated it 5... Because I'm sure once you get the grind right, it will be amazing. 9 more sample packs to go!
Seems like all the dark roasts are exceptional.
The Lone Peak Espresso Medium Dark Roast is a pure delight. The roast is bold yet nuanced. You can still taste fine chocolatey notes and nutty undertones. For a darker roast it does not taste burned in the least. It also lingers with a nice syrupy finish. This is probably my favorite espresso roast to date of any coffee company...and believe me, I've tried a ton!
My husband and I both really liked this flavor. We will consider ordering this flavor in the future.
